We used to make things in America besides financially engineered pretzels on Wall Street- you know like textiles (besides American Apparel), electronics, toys, etc, etc....
And we still consume, discard and consume some more. Companies are still making billions off us. So we consume and spend, and the jobs are given to the lowest bidders around the world.
There is no problem with that- everyone deserves a wage everywhere on earth. But the disparity between local American job creation and global job disapation is staggering.
So here is a simple proposal from a simple man:
If a company Y derives X percent of total worldwide revenue from US consumers, then same X percentage of company Y's worldwide workforce needs to be within the US. No more offshoring jobs if you are selling to us.
So a company like Sony, who I think sells a bit of merchandise in the USA, might actually have to make some of it here.
Nuts, right?
